SHAKEDOWN STREET!!!

So, I'm putting together a personal compilation of favorite versions of Jerry tunes...I'd greatly appreciate if folks could give me feedback with their favorite versions (or if you prefer, 'best' version) of 'shakedown...'

So far, in the 'running' are:
• 4/17/82 from Hartford (a personal favorite)
• 11/29/80 (Florida, I think)
• I think there may be a good version on the commercially released, ‘Go To Nassau?’

Again your input is appreciated :~)

Gratefully Yours,
‘JEEPER’

I'm partial to 12/31/84, but that's just because I was there:

And we all know nothing good happened in '84... (like 7/13)

Summer '84 was horrible - I had to camp against the fence at Cal Expo, blew off my job in Santa Cruz to travel out to Colorado where got 2 U.S. Blues in 3 days at Red Rocks (with the breakout of some Brent cover tune while getting no sleep at Chief Hoser's), then back to Tahoe to hang out before ending up with 3 days at the Greek where they played a sloppy transition from Scarlet into Hell, then had to hitchhike down 1 (where the tubs at Esalen grabbed me for a few nights) to Ventura where Wavy gave me thorazine on the bus and helped me find some clothes and my friends at the close of the second day. I'm sure I would have been handled much better by Nassau or Meadowlands' security. No sarcasm (?).

YES! And then Hampton years later.

I'm glad I wasn't one of those in the know about them breaking it out. I was on the front of the lawn overlooking the lower crowd/stage and bay beyond and saw the shooting star. The moment when Phil hit those opening notes still gives me chills.... (after he told the crowd to hold on because they were going to try something special - Friday the 13th with a full moon). Yea, it was '84 but it was pure magic. One hell of a weekend and then DNC in SF and hitching down 1 from Santa Cruz to Ventura... Nobody for President in 1984. All I owned was what I carried. Freedom's just another word ...

cool, thanks for the link.

Yea i was talking to clementine the other day about how pissed you woulda been if you were one of those people who decided to skip the encore to get out early only to find out they played dark star. And im sure that happened to a few people who were there. I didnt know about the rumors, ill definitely give that link a read.

And while i rarely venture into 1984 I still find 1984-03-31 to be one of the best 80s shows I've ever heard. Disregarding the latter half of the second set, its pretty killer. An amazing LLR (all time favorite next to 1985-11-05, or is it -08?) along with every song being a stand out version.

I caught the Ripple encore and that show was a dog. I recall the show as pretty much sucking and friends I were with did leave before that encore, but I'm damn glad I stayed since only GD Ripple I caught. Was also at Hampton Box of Rain breakout and while it was ragged, I have no true recall because everyone was screaming, jumping up and down, etc. I guess it didn't take that much for us to get too excited in the mid-80s...

http://www.archive.org/post/410548/best-shakedown-4-6-82

I have been challenging myself to listen to every version that are recommended. I remember the tops my list

i can't recall which i preferred, but after you've listened to 10/25/79 & 10/31/79, you can consider this poll closed, with full-confidence i might add

10/25/79 takes the cake.

I think 12/31/81 is right up there with it though.

12/31/81! What a show!

I also really dig this one:

http://www.archive.org/details/gd1982-07-28.fob.senn421.wise.miller.102571.flac16

It starts off with the sound a tad wonky (there was thunder and lightning and it was dumping rain) but when it gets dialed-in whoa nelly! The audience recording allows you to hear the band using the rocks to create a magnificent sound. The SBD of this show is worthless.

This is an outrageous version and killer show, Aruthnot. Jerry is playing with demonic intensity. The poll is always still open. Jump in, the water's fine.

only one person mentions 6-30-85?

certainly check out that one. Its full of really excellent jamming from the whole crew and certainly a unique version. I know of no better version, but there are a lot of good jams out there.

I also enjoy 1989-07-09 a lot, not as epic as 6-30-85, but probably my favorite "textbook" shakedown.
